The story
The Lavery is a Mediterranean restaurant at 4 Cromwell Place in South Kensington, London, and The Good Food Guide rates it Good for 2026. The first-floor dining room sits in a restored Georgian townhouse once home and studio to the Anglo-Irish painter Sir John Lavery.
Yohei Furuhashi leads the kitchen, after earlier cooking at River Café and Toklas. His seasonal menu draws on Mediterranean ingredients and techniques, with influences from the British Isles. Menus change each day, so the examples shown online are a guide rather than a fixed list. Michelin has listed the restaurant as Recommended for 2026.
Lunch has included grilled squid with fresh borlotti beans, rocket and chilli, which reviewers found tender and creamy. Dinner has featured monkfish with clams, zucchini, coco beans and mojo verde, and guinea fowl with prosciutto, sage, Marsala, olives and spinach. The Original Bean chocolate mousse with Agen prunes is already being called a signature dessert.
The main room has creamy-white walls, ornate plasterwork and tall gilt-edged mirrors, with a long zinc counter in the bar. A private dining room on the ground floor, below the restaurant, seats 16 guests. The ground-floor café takes walk-ins during the day for a more casual meal.
