The story
Planque sits under two former railway arches at 322-324 Acton Mews, Dalston, London E8 4EA. It serves modern British cooking with a French accent and came 11th at the National Restaurant Awards in 2026. It calls itself a wine drinkers' clubhouse, but the restaurant is open to everyone.
Chef Seb Myers is Australian-born and previously cooked at Chiltern Firehouse. He also oversaw the food at P.Franco and The Laughing Heart, both known for natural wine. His menu at Planque has around 15 starters and mains with no set sections, plus five desserts. The Good Food Guide rates it Very Good for 2026 and calls the cooking restrained yet always surprising.
Cured bream is cut into thick, sashimi-like slices and sits in a pool of habanero chilli oil. The courgette tart is four pastry puffs, each topped with goat's curd and an anchovy fillet. In the cuttlefish ragoût, the tiny risina beans take the lead. Guinea fowl thigh comes with an endive and orange garnish borrowed from classic duck. Dessert might be gariguette strawberries with brown butter financier and a blackcurrant stalk ice cream.
The arches hold a members-only lounge, a bar and a 60-cover restaurant. Cobalt blue walls, mixed furniture and plenty of natural light keep it homely. The wine list leans toward low intervention bottles, grower Champagne and Jura and Beaujolais names. Bottles start around £40, and there is no Bordeaux.
