The story
Pig and Butcher, at 80 Liverpool Road in Islington, London, is a modern British restaurant with a Michelin Recommended listing for 2026. The dining room is a mid 1800s pub, built when Islington was still a village outside the city. The menu follows the seasons and changes daily.
The meat is butchered on site each day in a room downstairs, and fruit and vegetables arrive every morning from New Spitalfields Market. The beef is the clearest expression of the kitchen: a 45 day aged beef tartare with egg yolk and thyme crostini, and a 60 day aged côte de boeuf with triple cooked beef fat chips. The AA has awarded the restaurant two rosettes for culinary excellence in 2026.
The first floor Private Dining Room has a wood burning stove and an Aga oven, and seats up to 24. The main dining room seats up to 45. The wine list changes regularly and draws on family-owned vineyards the restaurant has used since the mid nineties. Dogs are welcome, and Sunday roasts are served until 9pm.
