The story
Miga is a Korean restaurant at 1 Mare Street, Hackney, London, E8 4RP, and holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand (2026) for good quality, good value cooking. The exterior is whitewashed with small handwritten signage, so the cooking does most of the talking.
Hyun Sang Ko cooks in the open kitchen while his two sons run the front of house. A mural on the wall traces the family's cooking back through earlier generations. The bone broth, a recipe passed down through the family, is the backbone of the kitchen's output.
Galbi jjim arrives as beef short rib braised until it falls from the bone, served with pear, carrot and shiitake mushrooms. The gang doenjang, a stew built on soybean paste, takes in tofu and marrow. King prawns come in a gochujang sauce that pairs seafood freshness with a clear chilli heat. There is no dessert menu, so the ox-bone broth can close the meal in place of a pudding.
