The story
Kitchen W8 is a modern British restaurant at 11-13 Abingdon Road, Kensington, London, and it holds three AA Rosettes for culinary excellence in 2026. It opened in 2009 with the aim of being a home from home for the neighbourhood.
Chef Mark Kempson builds menus around seasonal produce from farmers and fishermen the team admires. He also cooks with wild food, so venison, game birds, chanterelles and hedgerow fruits turn up as the year moves on. The restaurant describes the results as intensely flavourful dishes of deceptive simplicity.
The Good Food Guide rates Kitchen W8 Very Good (2026) and calls the style modern English with a French soul. Its entry singles out scorched Cornish mackerel with smoked eel and golden beets, and pigeon raviolo with pickled pear. Choose from à la carte, a tasting menu or a three-course set menu at £49.50 (lunch and early evening, Monday to Saturday). Sunday lunch pairs the à la carte with roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.
Tables are linened, the walls plain cream, and ornate mirrors share space with contemporary art. The Good Food Guide likens it to a Mayfair address that still works as a special-occasion local. Private dining is available for larger parties.
