The story
Cinder St John's Wood, at 5 St John's Wood High Street in London, is a Mediterranean restaurant that holds a 2 Rosette Award for Culinary Excellence from AA for 2026. It is the newer of two Cinder sites, following the original in Belsize Park, and the kitchen runs on fire.
Jake Finn began Cinder out of his fascination with cooking over flame, and the kitchen's heart is a Josper flame oven. The menu is a long roster of small plates meant for sharing. The Good Food Guide singled out grilled bread with garlicky tahini, spicy tuna ceviche with sweet potato, and cod croquettes served with Turkish Urfa chilli aïoli.
The wine list is short but covers enough ground, with bottles from France, Italy, Spain and Portugal. Cocktails are also on offer. Desserts stay simple, with crème brûlée and baked cheesecake, or freshly cooked doughnuts with BBQ banoffee sauce.
