The story
Bonheur by Matt Abé sits at 43 Upper Brook Street in Mayfair, London, where chef Matt Abé's French kitchen earned three AA Rosettes in 2026. The room was once home to Le Gavroche, and the menu carries that French tradition forward with a lighter, more modern touch.
Abé trained under Gordon Ramsay, becoming Chef Patron at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in 2020 before opening his own restaurant. The cooking is ingredient-led and classically rooted, with a focus on seasonal produce and careful technique. Guests can choose the Dream or Journey tasting menus, or order from the à la carte menu.
The à la carte menu includes a quiche lorraine with smoked ham, leek and Gruyère, and a quail blanquette with girolles, white onion and pickled walnut. The île flottante, a nod to Le Gavroche's signature dessert, arrives with summer fruits, sorrel and almond. Pecan praline with Pedro Ximénez, coffee and cocoa nib closes the dessert course.
The dining room sits below street level, and the design brings more light and a contemporary feel to the historic space. A recreated aerial photograph of a pink salt lake in Western Australia appears among the Australian touches Abé included, which reflect his Sydney roots.
