The story
Dunoon Hotel, at Gloddaeth Street in Llandudno, runs a modern British kitchen that holds two AA Rosettes for culinary excellence (2026). The hotel's dining room and wine list give the meal a sense of occasion, and the Welsh produce on the menu gives it a clear sense of place.
The kitchen cooks local ingredients simply, and it sources them locally where the seasons allow. Fresh fish arrives daily from Mermaid Seafoods in Llandudno, cheese comes from Blas Ar Fwyd in Llanrwst, and meat comes from the Conwy Valley. The team cares more about flavour than fussy presentation, so the plates tend to be direct.
The oak-panelled room is elegant and a little grand. Tables carry fresh flowers, pressed linen napkins in silver rings, fine china and heavy Sheffield steel cutlery. Service is unhurried and attentive, which suits a long dinner.
The wine list is built around characterful bottles from smaller producers, sourced through Yapp Brothers in Wiltshire, Adnams of Southwold and Blas ar Wîn in North Wales. Diners can also join the Dunoon Wine Club, launched in 2009, which offers mixed cases from growers the hotel knows well. A newer venue, Next Door, pours local ales and gins and serves small and sharing plates.
