The story
Larder is a modern British brasserie and grill at Bore Street in Lichfield, Staffordshire, and it holds two AA Rosettes for Culinary Excellence (2026). The family-run restaurant has cooked for its home town since 2018, with steak, local meat and seasonal dishes at the centre of the menu.
Head chef Alex Wickham started as a kitchen assistant at 15, while studying for a college catering course, and reached senior sous chef by 28. The menus blend traditional dishes with modern techniques. The kitchen runs a seven course tasting menu alongside a prime beef burger, and the cooking style stays the same across both. Meat comes from trusted local butchers, and the rest of the produce changes with the season.
Luke James, who opened the restaurant with his family, converted a photographic studio on Bore Street into the dining room in ten weeks, using the family's construction experience. The room feels warm and relaxed, suited to casual catch-ups and Friday night steaks. Small plates, a Sunday roast and early-bird deals sit alongside the grill menu.
