The story
Glebe House in Honiton, Devon, serves country cooking from a Georgian house at Southleigh, EX24 6SD, with a kitchen garden and 15 acres of grounds behind it. The Good Food Guide rated it Very Good in 2026.
Head chef David Knapman trained at The Fat Duck and at Maison Lameloise in Burgundy. The kitchen draws on the country cooking of Italy and France, applied to what the farm grows and rears. Lop pigs are raised on site and turned into salumi, and the bread is naturally leavened and baked daily.
A late-summer set menu began with Glebe salumi and Vacchino cheese, followed by octopus terrine with sauce vierge. Ricotta and Ticklemore agnolotti gave the pasta course a West Country accent, and guinea fowl came with sweetcorn, girolles and a sherry and tarragon sauce. Dessert might be tarta di riso with poached rhubarb, or a version of Exeter pudding. The Glebe House Dinner runs five courses on Thursday to Saturday (£75), while the Monday to Wednesday Kitchen Supper is three courses (£45). Michelin lists the restaurant as Recommended for 2026.
The whitewashed house sits high on a grassy slope, furnished with grandfather clocks, kilim rugs and Welsh dressers. Guests can sit at the long table in the small kitchen and watch the cooking. The Italian-leaning wine list starts at around £30 a bottle. Rooms are in the main house and in a cabin in the grounds.
