The story
1919 is the fine dining room at The Cottage in the Wood, on Holywell Road in Malvern Wells, Great Malvern. The modern British kitchen holds three AA Rosettes for 2026 and a Michelin Recommended listing for the same year.
The menu changes with the seasons and draws on the local larder of Worcestershire. Guests can choose a seven-course tasting journey, so the evening unfolds over many small courses. Each dish reflects a focus on local and regional ingredients.
The celeriac and mushroom Wellington is the head chef's take on the classic beef version, and it is made from scratch each day. Celeriac is layered like a dauphinoise but built with stock instead of cream, then wrapped around a mushroom and truffle duxelles and spinach. The pastry is vegan and glazed with soya milk, so vegans and vegetarians need not miss out.
