The story
36 on the Quay sits at 47 South Street in Emsworth, Hampshire, where a modern British kitchen earned three AA Rosettes for 2026. The restaurant runs from a 17th century building on the quay, with rooms upstairs and the harbour outside the window.
Gary Pearce leads the kitchen, which builds its menus around seasonal ingredients and careful technique. Diners can choose a set lunch, an à la carte menu or the 8 Moments tasting menu. Pearce trained at Le Champignon Sauvage and worked in kitchens including Noma and In De Wulf, and the restaurant holds a 2026 Michelin Recommended listing.
The dining room is a Grade II listed space with white linen tables and a calm view over the water. Four bedrooms sit upstairs for overnight guests. In warmer months, a terrace faces the harbour, and a courtyard garden beside the restaurant catches the sun.
