The story
The Rum Fox is a modern British gastropub on Sawley Road, Grindleton, BB7 4QS, in the Ribble Valley, and the Good Food Guide lists it as Good for 2026. The double-fronted pub pairs a traditional beamed bar with a more contemporary dining room, and its menu moves between pub classics and seasonal cooking.
The kitchen's seasonal cooking has a muscular style, and the Good Food Guide notes that the chef knows the local market well. Pies and suet puddings anchor the menu, including chicken, bacon and tarragon pie and ox cheek, onion and mushroom suet pudding. The set menu takes dishes from the carte and can soften their refinement a little, though the value holds up.
The potato skins, crispy fried and stuffed with Doddington cheese, are the snack to start with, and the guide calls them one of the kitchen's now-legendary dishes. Sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream is the dessert to order, and the Yorkshire rhubarb and apple pie comes with crumble topping and custard. Morecambe Bay sea bass and venison loin also feature on the mains list.
Guests can eat in the beamed bar or in a light-filled open-plan room with flagged floors, solid ceramic tables and an open kitchen. The Den private dining room seats up to 10 guests, and bespoke menus are available for parties. The Good Food Guide describes the service as confident and enthusiastic.
