The story
The Bell Inn in Carterton, at Langford GL7 3LF, is a modern British pub that earned a 2026 Good Food Guide Local Gem. Peter Creed and Tom Noest reopened the village local in December 2017, serving hearty, classic British dishes alongside wood-fired cooking.
The kitchen pairs a British pub menu with dishes from the wood-fired oven, which can be seen from the restaurant's open fire. The Good Food Guide points to flatbreads topped with garlic, parsley and bone marrow, and to pizzas with mushrooms, truffle and basil. Steaks, calf's liver with mash and fish and chips complete the main courses, and a posh Sunday roast arrives on a scrubbed table.
The bar area is cosy, with plenty of seating for a quiet drink. The separate restaurant has an open fire, and a large beer garden overlooks open countryside. The wine and beer lists are straightforward, and the inn also offers accommodation.
