The story
The Sorting Room is a modern British brasserie inside the Parkgate Hotel at Westgate Street, Cardiff CF10 1DA, and it holds a 2026 Michelin Guide recommendation. The restaurant occupies the grand rooms of Cardiff's old Post Office, where lunch and dinner are served under chandeliers.
The building opened in 1897 to mark Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, and its sorting floors now hold glittering chandeliers and plush leather sofas. Guests are asked to dress smart casual. On Saturday evenings, the bar and lounge hosts live music with vocalists, starting at 20:30.
The menu follows a British-inspired brasserie style, with a Welsh Beef Wellington as its signature dish. The Wellington Experience pairs that course with a selection board of starters and desserts and a welcome cocktail. The kitchen also serves a Sunday lunch, and the restaurant has been awarded two AA Rosettes for culinary excellence in 2026.
