The story
The Three Horseshoes Inn sits at Groesffordd, Powys, LD3 7SN, just outside Brecon, serving modern British gastropub food. The AA awarded it 2 Rosettes for culinary excellence in 2026, and the kitchen's cooking reflects that standard.
Head chef Alex Parrett leads the kitchen, supported by Jaimie Morris and Sion Morris. The menu changes monthly with the seasons, and the team forages in the surrounding countryside with the food writer Adele Nozedar. Recent starters have included Isle of Wight tomatoes with burrata and gremolata, and nduja croquettes with smoked paprika aioli.
The Good Food Guide named the inn a Local Gem in 2026 after its inspector praised the Sunday lunch. The roasts are topside of Welsh beef and leg of Welsh lamb, served with classic trimmings in separate bowls. A full review is still in progress, so the guide's verdict on the wider menu is yet to come.
The dining room seats 46 after a 2017 refurbishment that kept the traditional bar and open fire. Real ales and a wide range of beers and ciders sit alongside a wine list served by the bottle or glass, plus a non-alcoholic gin. In warmer weather, the beer garden has beach huts for eight that can be booked for al fresco dining, and well-behaved dogs are welcome in the bar, the garden and the huts.
