The story
New Coast Kitchen, at 1 St Mary's Road in Croyde, North Devon, serves modern British food built on local produce, and the Michelin Guide recommended it in 2026. The restaurant now runs as an all-day kitchen, with breakfast, lunch and dinner under one roof.
Martin Baylis leads the kitchen, drawing on English, Japanese and European cooking from his childhood. The restaurant buys its vegetables and herbs from Amary Farm in Ilfracombe, its fish and shellfish from Celtic Fish, and its meat from Woolley Farm. Woolley supplies grass-fed Devon Ruby Red beef and lamb, which the kitchen dry-ages with the farm's butcher.
The Good Food Guide lists the restaurant as Good for 2026, and its inspectors praised the seafood. Porthilly oysters arrive with apple pickle and chilli oil, or fried in tempura with a wasabi tartare sauce. A scallop ceviche comes in its shell with roquito pepper mayonnaise and a tomato granita. Hake has appeared with mussel mousse and miso butter sauce, and saddle of lamb is served pink with short rib and courgette purée. For dessert, the kitchen has offered vanilla cheesecake with honey and lavender ice cream, or chocolate ganache with poached cherries.
The dining room has dark walls, hanging greenery, large mirrors and low industrial lamps. Outside tables are popular at lunch, when a small-plates menu is served. The wine list features organic and less familiar bottles, including a Kardos Dry Furmint from Hungary and a Yamanashi Koshu from Japan, alongside a set of cocktails.
