The story
Nusara is a modern Thai restaurant at 336 Maha Rat Road in Bangkok, where classic Thai flavours are reworked with a playful edge. The Michelin Guide awarded it one star in 2026, and it debuted at No. 35 on The World's 50 Best Restaurants list in 2025.
Chef Thitid "Ton" Tassanakajohn opened Nusara in 2020 with his brother Chaisiri "Tam," naming it after the grandmother who raised them. Family recipes sit alongside cookbooks from the royal kitchens of King Rama V, who ruled from 1868 to 1910. The chef calls the cooking "Colorful Thai Cuisine," a style he describes as neither strictly traditional nor modern.
The blue swimming crab curry has become one of the kitchen's most recognisable plates, served with crispy rice noodles. Meals open with a run of small, punchy bites. The main courses then arrive family-style, as is the custom in Thailand, so each table shares a spread of contrasting flavours.
The dining room seats only about ten guests, which gives the evening a close, unhurried feel. Tam acts as maître d' and sommelier, and guests begin downstairs at Nuss, the cocktail bar. The first-floor room looks out over the Wat Pho temple complex, and the terrace is a good place for an after-dinner drink.
