The story
Yuu, at 15, Alley 33, Lane 216, Section 4, Zhongxiao East Road in Taipei's Da'an District, earned one Michelin star in 2026 for its French and Japanese cooking. The menu is a single fixed progression of courses, built around a Japanese kitchen working in the French tradition.
Chef and owner Yuu Shimano cooks with classical French technique and follows the rhythm of Japan's four seasons. Japanese fish and seasonal produce anchor the plates. The approach draws on wabi-sabi, a sensibility that favors restraint and quiet attention, so each dish leaves room for its main ingredient.
Yuu offers counter dining, so guests sit close enough to watch the kitchen at work. The tasting menu includes mineral water, sparkling water and after-meal tea, and it can be paired with wine, with sake, or with a smaller set of glasses. Guests with dietary restrictions should email the restaurant before booking, since the fixed menu limits some modifications. Severe allergies need confirmation in advance.
