The story
Bencotto is a contemporary Italian restaurant on the 6th floor of the Mandarin Oriental at 158 Dunhua North Road, Taipei, and it earned 1 fork from Gambero Rosso in 2026. The Michelin Guide also lists it as Recommended for the same year.
Chef de Cuisine Mario Quarta was born in Battipaglia, Italy, and has more than 15 years of experience in Italy and France. He previously led Suscettibile Salerno, which both Michelin and Gambero Rosso recognised from 2023 to 2025. His cooking centres on seasonality and purity of flavour, reading Italian tradition through a modern lens. The team works in an open kitchen and uses seasonal produce whenever possible.
The dining room has a rustic, relaxed feel, and counter dining is available for those who want to sit close to the kitchen. A Chef's Table and two private dining rooms seat between 10 and 50 guests. Parties of 8 or more are advised to order the chef's customised menu, which keeps waits short.
The choices include an à la carte menu, a weekday lunch set, an all-day set and a kids' menu. The wine list is interesting and wide-ranging, alongside spirits and non-alcoholic drinks. Dress is smart casual, and slippers are not permitted in the dining room.
