The story

Sens in Vitznau: French-Mediterranean Dining on Lake Lucerne

Sens at Seestrasse 80 in Vitznau is the French and Mediterranean restaurant of the Vitznauerhof hotel, rated 13 by Gault&Millau in 2026.

A summer residence on the water

Sens works as a seasonal residence. The 2026 run went from 22 May to 1 September, with host Raphael Herzog inviting guest chefs to cook at the lake. From October to May the kitchen opens for private parties, starting with an aperitif beside the cooks and moving on to a three-course menu.

What Gault&Millau tasted

The guide praises the panoramic terrace right at the water's edge. It describes a short menu centred on vegetarian dishes, with regional meat or fish added as a side on request. Its Mediterranean-leaning plates include gazpacho with fruity olive oil, beetroot and focaccia from the Green Egg, and Gotthard zander. A lemon cheesecake and a rhubarb Chüechli finish the meal.
