The story
Bären in Heitenried is a seasonal restaurant at Dorfplatz 4 (the address is listed as Schwarzenburg, 3150), and it earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026 for good-quality, good-value cooking. The house occupies a classicist building in the village centre and offers a modern Gaststube alongside the more formal GnussStube.
Patrick Germann cooks a creative, seasonal regional menu, served à la carte and as the MundArt Menu, a four to six course gourmet dinner booked in advance. Franziska Ilg looks after the guests in both rooms. The kitchen sources from the surrounding region and from producers it knows personally.
Reviewers praised an asparagus cream soup, poured at the table over a cheese praline and dried-tomato gremolata. A poultry terrine with celeriac and apple and a crisp free-range egg with Sbrinz also stood out. For the main course, the Appenzell Ribelmais poularde came stuffed with morels, served with wild garlic potato purée. The cheese board featured Blaues Hirni, a blue cheese from Belp, and dessert closed the meal with mascarpone and strawberries in a glass.
