The story
La Bagatelle, at Neueretstrasse 43 in Gstaad, is the restaurant of Hotel Le Grand Chalet, offering a classic French kitchen with a Mediterranean accent. Gault&Millau awarded it 16 points in 2026, and the guide describes the cooking as precise and dependable.
Chef de cuisine Steve Willié and his brigade cook with the market, so the menu changes with what arrives each day. Guests can order from the à la carte or choose a daily menu at lunch or in the evening. Gault&Millau notes that the carte is largely traditional French and rarely changes, with each step executed carefully.
Reviewers singled out a smoked trout tatar under a sour cream cap as the amuse-bouche. A seared scallop with celeriac purée and a light lime sauce also stood out, as did a veal fillet in truffle cream sauce served with well-made rösti. The passion fruit sphere, wrapped in coconut mousse and crisp white chocolate, earned top marks for dessert.
The main restaurant and veranda look out over the Saanenland, and the terrace suits both summer sunsets and winter lunches in the sun. A cosy lounge by the fireplace, the Grand Cru room with its terrace for celebrations, and the 60 m² Rellerli lounge offer private settings. The wine list received a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence in 2004.
