The story
Römerhof in Arbon, Switzerland, is a Classic French and International restaurant at Freiheitsgasse 3, set in a historic house on the old town's medieval walls. Gault&Millau awarded it 12 points in 2026, and the restaurant also appears in the Michelin Guide as Recommended for the same year.
Louis Gerald Bergue leads the kitchen, and his Mauritian roots show on the plate. Local and exotic dishes appear on the à la carte menu alongside classic French technique. The evening gourmet menu carries that mix across several courses.
Gault&Millau singled out the "Asperge parfaite," a plate of asparagus with potatoes, a poached egg in a Parmesan coat, graved salmon and hollandaise. Other plates include Swiss salmon with tuna tartare, sea bream fillet on asparagus risotto, and veal filet mignon with morels and potato mash. The meal ends with strawberry millefeuille or a chocolate variation with moelleux and glace.
Eleven rooms sit above the restaurant. The terrace runs along the former Arbon city wall and is used on mild summer evenings. After dinner, the Davidoff Cigar Lounge offers cigars and rum. The wine list holds more than 140 bottles, with a focus on Switzerland and the surrounding region.
