The story
Restaurang Äng in Varberg holds a Michelin star for 2026 and serves a Scandinavian tasting menu at Ästad 10, Tvååker. The restaurant sits inside Ästad Vingård, an organic vineyard in Halland, where the kitchen works mostly with what grows and swims close by.
Filip Gemzell cooks with produce picked each morning from nearby forests, beaches and fields. He worked for several years at top restaurants in London and on Svalbard before returning to Sweden. The White Guide gave the kitchen its Very fine level in 2026, praising the way the dishes trace the landscape around the vineyard.
The full tasting menu is the only way to dine at Äng. For 2026 it costs SEK 2,900 and takes about four and a half hours. Dishes are served as designed, though a pescetarian version can be arranged. Vegetarian and vegan menus are not offered, and allergies must be announced 48 hours ahead. Milk protein and lactose sensitivities cannot be catered for.
A beverage pairing costs SEK 2,000, a sparkling pairing SEK 2,900, and a non-alcoholic pairing SEK 1,200. Some wines come from the neighbouring Ästad vineyard, and the cellar's organic Scandinavian wines are made roughly 100 metres from the dining room. Guests staying overnight can book a tasting breakfast on Tuesday to Saturday in the glass house, with homemade drinks from the sommeliers, for SEK 1,300 including beverages.
