The story
Restaurante Rekondo is a Basque kitchen at Paseo de Igueldo 57 in San Sebastián, on the slopes of Monte Igueldo with views over the bay. The restaurant holds a Michelin Guide Recommended distinction for 2026, and its menu is built around local produce and cooking over embers.
The kitchen works with a hearth and charcoal embers, and the restaurant says the quality of the produce drives every dish. Its stated aim is to respect each ingredient and stay faithful to its flavour. Guests who come for Basque cooking will find the grill and the hearth at the centre of the room's work.
La Bodega is the restaurant's cellar, which the site describes as one of the best in the world. Wine Spectator awarded Rekondo its Grand Award in 2019. The cellar and the kitchen are presented together, so a visit here is as much about the bottle list as the plate.
