The story
Gostilna Mahorčič sits at Rodik 51, Rodik, 6240, near Sežana, where a European kitchen draws on Karst-Brkini ingredients and traditions. Gault&Millau awarded the restaurant 17 points in 2026, placing its modern Karst-Brkini cooking among the strongest in the region.
The house has welcomed guests for more than 120 years, beginning with the coachmen who travelled through the village. Martin and Ksenija Krajšek Mahorčič now run it as the fourth generation of hosts. Their guidebook-style pride rests on the idea that guests should leave feeling at home.
Gault&Millau singles out the aged cheese flan, served on a shallot sauce with a crispy fried egg yolk coated in cornmeal and finished with shaved black truffle. The beef tartare takes a forest-inspired form, with premium beef, pumpkin seed oil breadcrumbs and a porcini butter garnish. Chestnut tart with Brkini apples, quince and rhubarb closes the meal.
The central room is built around a traditional ceramic stove, and the restored house keeps its older character alongside contemporary touches. The family has also pursued sustainability, receiving the Slovenia Green Cuisine sign in June 2021. Fresh tap water is served in place of single-use bottles.
