The story
Stara Gostilna serves contemporary cuisine at Savudrijska ulica 2 in Piran, Slovenia, and holds a Michelin Recommended listing for 2026. The restaurant sits a short stroll from the Piran promenade and is one of the oldest gostilnas in town, though its kitchen is run by a younger team.
Donata Krašek has led the restaurant since 1997. Chef Kristian Zule, known as Kiki, joined in 2020, and the site describes him as the youngest Slovenian chef with a Michelin recognition. The kitchen combines local culinary heritage with a younger chef's inventiveness.
Gault&Millau awarded the restaurant 15 points in 2026, and its review singled out the sea bass sashimi with daikon radish, vinaigrette and a hint of blackberry. The liver pâté tart pairs a silky filling with crisp shortcrust, served alongside pickled pearl onions in Port wine and pear marmalade. Tasting menus run to eight courses at 130 EUR or ten courses at 150 EUR.
The dining room is small and intimate, with a minimalist interior and soft lighting. The wine list holds about 500 labels, including bottles from Primorska, alongside 150 spirits. A sommelier guides guests through Slovenian and international regions. The room can also be booked privately for an event or an intimate dinner for two.
