The story
Restavracija Grad Otočec occupies Otočec Castle at Grajska cesta 2 in Otočec na Krki, near Novo Mesto. Its seasonal, French-leaning kitchen is listed as Michelin Recommended for 2026.
Foie gras is the French signature here, served castle-style with sweet onion jam and pickled shallots. An onion tart pairs it with young goat cheese and hollandaise. Starters also include a beef tartare for two and a tuna tartare with quail egg, peanuts, citrus and soy. The pulled duck leg comes with Jerusalem artichoke purée, port wine sauce, sour cherry gel and buttered polenta made from Bohinj heritage corn. For dessert, a white pastry hides white chocolate and pear.
The four-course menu (72 EUR) runs from red beet carpaccio and smoked trout risotto with pumpkin to the duck leg and a white chocolate mousse. The six-course menu (92 EUR) adds tuna tartare and grilled sea bass. Wine pairing costs 30 EUR with four glasses or 40 EUR with six. Gault&Millau scored the restaurant 14.5 in 2026.
Part of the produce comes from the castle's own organic garden, and nearby certified farms supply the rest. Guests can sit in the main dining room, the Hunting Room with its fireplace, the panoramic café or the terrace within the castle walls. Weddings and celebrations are frequent here, and the restaurant is sometimes closed for private functions, so booking ahead is wise.
