The story
Gostilna Krištof, at Predoslje 22 in Kranj, is a family restaurant serving modern Slovenian cuisine, and Gault&Millau awarded it 15.5 points in 2026. The inn sits in the Gorenjska countryside, less than half an hour's drive from Ljubljana airport, and the Bolka family has run it for decades.
Chef Uroš Gorjanc leads the kitchen, and the house describes its approach as modern cuisine built on tradition. The menu uses fresh, locally produced ingredients, and the family has worked with local suppliers since the 1990s. Michelin has recommended the restaurant in 2026 as well.
Marinated Vodomec trout comes with horseradish foam, apple and ginger. The venison is cooked to medium and served with fig chutney, which the guide singled out as a fitting sweet note for game. Dessert brings buckwheat and cottage cheese štruklji with baked apple and cinnamon, vanilla sauce and homemade ice cream.
The Bolka family bought an old coachman inn called Pri Kuraltu in the 1960s and named it after Saint Christopher, patron of travellers. Behind the restaurant, a former village dairy now houses A Self-Sufficient House, Pantry, where guests can order boxes of organic and local products. The wine cellar focuses on ecologically produced wines, and the house sommelier chooses pairings to match the seasonal flavours coming from the kitchen.
