The story
Ošterija Debeluh, at Trg izgnancev 7 in Brežice, is a contemporary kitchen that earned 17.5 points from Gault&Millau in 2026. The restaurant serves a tasting menu built on local ingredients, led by chef Jure Tomič.
Tomič was born in Brežice in 1981 and studied food science and nutrition before committing fully to gastronomy. He gained experience in several small restaurants before opening this family restaurant. His plates usually carry only three or four main ingredients, most of them from the surrounding region.
The tasting menu shows his range most clearly. The signature "tortica" combines beef tartare in a chilled nutmeg broth with foie gras and quail egg, and a touch of coffee changes the finish. Tortellini filled with goat cheese come in a sauce made from the milk in which lamb was cooked, topped with porcini foam. Pasta is one of his strengths: in 2016 he won the Barilla World Pasta Championship in Parma, beating 16 chefs.
The dining room is warm and intimate, and it resembles a French country restaurant. The wine list holds around 480 labels, and Michelin lists the restaurant as Recommended for 2026. Wine pairings are chosen to suit the food rather than dominate it.
