The story
Restavracija Majerca sits at Stara Fužina 19 in Bohinjska Bistrica, Slovenia, serving modern cuisine built on Bohinj's river trout, dairy and herbs. Gault&Millau awarded it 14 points in 2026, and the restaurant belongs to the boutique hotel of the same name.
The kitchen works from local and seasonal ingredients, and guests can choose a three, four or five course tasting menu. The amuse-bouche is trout spread enriched with herb oil and lightly whipped homemade butter. Buckwheat dumplings filled with local cottage cheese make up the warm starter, and veal loin arrives with creamy trdinka polenta and seasonal cabbage.
The dinner menu includes marinated trout with parsnip and green apple, and dry-aged beef tartare with sour cherries. Mains range from duck with heritage corn and walnuts to a 300g beef steak with buttery mashed potatoes. Vegetarian options include zucchini with a cottage cheese dumpling. The Michelin Guide lists the restaurant with a Bib Gourmand for good quality, good value cooking.
