The story
Old Manila, in Makati City, serves French cuisine at 1226 Makati Ave., Manila, within The Peninsula Manila. The Michelin Guide recommended the restaurant in 2026, and the dining room has operated since 1976.
Chef de Cuisine Matthieu Fournier reinterprets French classics with precision and restraint. The French kitchen treats its traditions as a starting point, not a script. The wine programme is considered, and sommelier-led pairings accompany the menu. Wine Spectator gave the restaurant its Award of Excellence in 2024.
The dining room is Art Deco in style. The Magsaysay Room, the private dining space, is named after Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay, whose oil portrait hangs on its wall. The painting is based on an original in the reception hall of Malacañang Palace. The room suits intimate gatherings, executive dinners and celebrations.
