The story
Aan Sjuuteeänjd at Dorpsstraat 74 in Schinnen is a French-inspired restaurant built on organic and regional produce, recognised with a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026.
Chef Jean Thoma and his wife Sonja have run the restaurant for more than 25 years, cooking mostly with vegetables from their own garden and from nearby farms. Gault&Millau awarded the kitchen 13.5 points in 2026, recognising the couple's early focus on organic and local ingredients. Guests choose a surprise menu of four to six courses, and the whole menu can be prepared plant-based.
Sous-vide pork belly from the Kuusj pig farm in Mechelen arrives with crisp chicory and a beetroot balkenbrij. Black Angus beef from Schimmert is served two ways, pan-seared and braised. Earlier courses have included house-pickled vegetables with hummus and seed crackers, and a starter of dry-aged celeriac with cashew paste and black garlic.
The dining room sits in a former farmhouse barn with original features, brightened with bric-a-brac. Sonja selects the wines from an organic list, with pairings available and an alcohol-free option. Coffee is followed by petit fours such as crème brûlée, canelé and chocolate bonbons.
