The story
MARIO is an Italian restaurant at Neck 15 in Wijdewormer, Purmerend, and carries a Michelin Recommended listing for 2026. The Uva family has run it since 1967, and three generations have now worked here.
Emilio, Daphne and Sil run MARIO today. Emilio grew up in the business and once explained the seven-course menu to guests in two languages as a teenager. Sil trained at Hisa Franko in Slovenia and worked in Amsterdam at 212 and Bistro de la Mer before coming back to Neck.
Dinner is a surprise menu of five, six or seven courses, built from fresh seasonal ingredients, at €67.50, €82.50 and €95.00 per person. Gault&Millau gave the restaurant 13 in 2026 and describes a kitchen that tastes honest for its simplicity, true to the Italian table. A wine pairing is available, and you can decide on it the same evening.
MARIO has three rooms (one for families) and a suite with a bathtub. They can only be booked together with dinner, and breakfast is included. Overnight guests are served the full seven courses, and in good weather they can take an aperitif on the small terrace.
