Located across from Theater De Lievenkamp, it's a welcome touch that they offer a special theater menu alongside a choice menu and seasonal menus featuring four or five courses. Chef Antoon Elberse specializes in French cuisine but enjoys venturing into Spanish and Italian flavors. His specialty lies in reimagining classic dishes in new forms. A prime example is his vitello tonnato. It features veal jus set as a jelly in a ring, a piece of flash-fried tuna, curly lettuce, tuna mousse, and crispy parmesan shards. Hostess Sophie van Raaij keeps everything running smoothly on the floor. She curates beautiful, perfectly paired wines for our lunch. In the bright, enclosed veranda, our taste buds are awakened by crispy chips seasoned with Mexican spices and pappadums dusted with paprika. We pair them with a refreshing 2023 Veiga da Princesa Albariño from Spain. We can't resist the temptation to try an oyster served with yuzu and gin pearls as a starter bite. A great choice, as this little flavor bomb is absolutely fantastic. Next comes a spoonful of gazpacho sorbet with a green cream and a Parmesan crisp. A 'Caesar salad' is then presented on a Japanese tabletop grill: a leaf of Little Gem lettuce, bacon lardons, a slice of chicken breast, and anchovy pearls. Another delightful culinary wink from the chef. Meanwhile, our hostess pours a glass of Campo di Marte Pecorino Offida from the Marche region—a rich, dry white wine with aromas of yellow fruits. Paired with it, we enjoy a creamy cannelloni filled with asparagus mousse, wrapped in cucumber, accompanied by seared tuna, green asparagus, and salmon roe. Absolutely delicious! Asparagus also makes an appearance as the main course: served both in the classic style (with ham, egg, and butter jus) and with hollandaise sauce. Both are perfectly cooked with a lovely crunch. Avenue43 is a true culinary gem in Oss.
