The story
Niemeijer is a restaurant at Akerkstraat 20 in Groningen, serving French cuisine with Dutch roots. The Michelin Bib Gourmand it received in 2026 recognises good quality, good value cooking. The restaurant opened in late 2023 on a quiet street in the city centre.
Janick Niemeijer cooks French dishes with regional influences, and many ingredients come from the couple's own garden in Drenthe. Vegetables, herbs, flowers and bees all feed into the menu. Guests can watch the brigade work in the open kitchen from the bar, or sit at the back with a view of the inner garden.
The eierbal, a Groningen classic, arrives with vadouvan and honey. Steak tartaar comes with white asparagus and smoked egg yolk, while the cod is served with fennel, celeriac and spinach. Dessert is a Crêpe Suzette with orange and vanilla crème pâtissière.
