The story
Achter de Poorte, at Noorderwalstraat 21 in Elburg, is a French-Mediterranean restaurant that earned 12.5 points from Gault&Millau in 2026. The restaurant sits in the old town, behind the historic city gate.
David de Jong now leads the kitchen, succeeding Arno Visser, and the cooking balances classic technique with a contemporary French-Mediterranean style. Lekker500 included the restaurant in its 2026 Top 500. Menus run from four to eight courses, with a compact à la carte alongside. The team cooks with day-fresh produce and changes the menu with the seasons.
The dining room occupies a historic building with wooden beams and slightly crooked walls, and it feels like a living room. Natasja Bijl runs the front of house as owner, hostess and sommelier, and she is happy to pair wines on request. The terrace opens in good weather, and a private room seats groups of up to 24.
