The story
Promessa sits on the market square at Markt 3 in Eersel, a French kitchen that earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026 for good quality, good value cooking. The restaurant has been run by the Dijkstra family for three generations, and the current menu treats each plate as a study in balance and texture.
Chef Koen van den Kerkhof leads the kitchen with modern dishes that often surprise. Guests choose between Promessa Bistro, with à la carte options, and Promessa Food Atelier, with surprise menus. Amuse-bouches arrive before each course rather than with the aperitif, a structure the house calls an experience.
One recent tasting opened with lightly marinated scallops, dill, horseradish, hangop, wasabi and verbena sauce. Pan-fried corvina followed, served with pepper sauce and a beurre blanc finished with capers. A lamb fillet with herb crust, spinach sauce, olive foam, Manchego and lamb jus showed the kitchen at its most assured, and a smooth Médoc suited it well.
The interior is sleek and contemporary, with a view into the open kitchen. In summer, tables move onto the terrace on the Market directly outside. Young service staff handle guest interaction with enthusiasm and professionalism.
