The story
Restaurant Judith sits in the conservatory of Kasteel Engelenburg at Eerbeekdeweg 6 in Brummen, where the kitchen works in a modern cuisine with French and international leanings. The Michelin Guide listed it as Recommended for 2026.
Chef Kelvin Haagen followed Edwin Franken at the stove. His cooking draws on influences from around the world but is built on local ingredients. Gault&Millau gave the restaurant 14.5 points in 2026, describing a kitchen that pairs gastronomic precision with the produce of the region. The open kitchen stands inside the conservatory, so the team's work is part of the room.
The menu comes as three tasting menus, each with more courses than the last. Whenever the menu changes, one dish is based on a recipe from around 1500. In one recent version it was an old porridge turned into a rice pudding roll with citrus and saffron ice cream. Reviewers have also singled out braised pork cheeks with sourdough croutons, pickled shallots and a mustard jus. Others praised a lobster tail in a cognac and vanilla bisque, and a hamachi ceviche with seaweed and radish.
Large windows look over the garden pond. Tables are wooden and dressed with linen, and the chairs are deep armchairs. Aperitifs and amuse-bouches are often taken in the lounge beforehand, with a single malt such as Longmorn if you like. The castle has served as a hotel, restaurant and golf estate since 1988, and the dining room feels like part of that larger property.
