The story
De Jufferen Lunsingh is a country house restaurant at Hoofdweg 13 in Westervelde, just outside Assen, serving French-inspired cooking in the Drenthe forests. Gault&Millau gave it a score of 12 in 2026, and Lekker500 included it in its Top 500 the same year.
Jelle Huitema leads the kitchen, which cooks a surprise menu that changes each day rather than offering a fixed card. Much of it comes from the estate's own vegetable garden, orchard and livestock. Fish and hams are smoked on site, and the reviewers singled out the strong use of fresh vegetables.
The property has thirteen guest rooms spread across the main house, an annexe, the barn and an attic room, each with its own character. Diners eat in the conservatory, which looks out over the Drenthe countryside, or on the terrace. The surrounding forests and walking routes start right at the door.
