The story
Vuurtoreneiland is a fine dining restaurant in Amsterdam, reached by ferry from Oostelijke Handelskade 34 to an island in the Markermeer. Gault&Millau gave it 14 points in 2026, and the evening starts before the first course arrives, on the water.
Boats leave from opposite the Lloyd Hotel, where the historic IJveer XIII carries guests across the IJ. The round trip with dinner takes about five hours. Guests receive a snack board and a drink on the way over, and there is time afterward to walk the island, the fort and the lighthouse.
The table d'hôte menu runs to about six courses and changes with the seasons. Regional produce is prepared with traditional techniques, mostly over open fire. The menu leans toward vegetables but still includes animal products, and the kitchen will adapt for allergies, though a gluten-free or vegan swap is not always of equal quality. Summer dinners take place in a glass greenhouse, while from October to mid-May guests eat in the winter room by the fireplace.
