The story
RIJKS® sits at Museumstraat 2 in Amsterdam, inside the Philips Wing of the Rijksmuseum, and holds a Michelin star in the 2026 guide. The restaurant calls its approach Cuisine of the Low Countries. Its cuisine is listed as Belgian, Dutch, International and Modern French, so the plates draw on local produce and wider influences.
Executive chef Joris Bijdendijk has led the kitchen since it opened in 2014, working with chefs Yascha Oosterberg and Friso van Amerongen. The cooking starts with produce grown on Dutch soil. Gault&Millau awarded the restaurant 17 points in 2026, citing a menu rooted in Dutch terroir with subtle exotic touches.
A 2025 review singled out the beetroot millefeuille, served with tomato beurre blanc and parsley oil. The dish has been on the menu for six years, and regulars ask for it by name. Other courses from recent visits include a scallop with Willem's Wermoed vinaigrette and a langoustine tartare with AnnaDutch caviar.
The dining room has high ceilings and an open kitchen that runs through the restaurant. Diners eat with cutlery that echoes the ornate frames found throughout the museum. When the weather allows, lunch and dinner are served on the terrace in the shade of the Rijksmuseum, facing Museumplein.
