The story
Morris & Bella is a plant-based restaurant at Nova Zemblastraat 586 in Amsterdam, and it holds a place in the Lekker500 Top 500 for 2026. Chef Maurice Leeffers and hostess Annebel van Meegen run the room together, serving a fixed menu of four to six courses with no meat, fish, or dairy.
Maurice Leeffers takes his cues from the garden, the field, and the forest. On his days off he forages in meadows and woods, then builds dishes around whatever the season brings. The kitchen follows a root to leaf approach and aims for as little waste as possible. Much of the produce comes from growers in and around Amsterdam.
Recent menus have included a potato salad with white bean miso dressing and fermented shallot cream, and a celery root gratin with steamed carrots and lentil cake. Asparagus soup arrived with wild garlic oil and a sweet-and-sour mushroom reduction. Gault&Millau 12 (2026) noted how the vegetables, flowers, and herbs drive the cooking. Courses are priced at €51, €61, or €71.
The dining room has the feel of a living room, with wooden tables, café chairs, and a partly open kitchen lined with preserving jars. Annebel van Meegen selects the wine list, which contains only European bottles, all organic or biodynamic. The sodas and beers are vegan too. In summer, guests can dine on the terrace.
