The story
Brasserie van Baerle, at Van Baerlestraat 158 in Amsterdam, is a French brasserie that Gault&Millau scored 13.5 in 2026. The kitchen has served classic French cooking in Amsterdam-Zuid since 1980, when it opened as a breakfast and lunch restaurant.
The compact card pairs French brasserie classics with newer dishes, and vegetarian options appear on it. Steak tartare comes with a poached egg, mustard mayonnaise and chives, while ravioli arrives with ricotta, young spinach and Parmesan. Oysters, asparagus and lobster appear when the season allows. Chef Pieter Damen guides the kitchen, and Ewout Lindenhovius runs it day to day.
Closely spaced tables and mirrors fill the dining room, and in summer the inner courtyard with its terrace opens up. The upstairs private dining room seats up to 35 for lunches, dinners and receptions.
