The story
Olde Marckt is a modern French restaurant at Markt 10 in Aalten, on the corner of the town's market square, and it holds one Michelin star (2026). The building has welcomed guests since 1925, when it was still known as Hotel Keizer.
Bram Stoverink took over the kitchen in 2023, after years at the starred kitchen of De Lindenhof in Giethoorn. His parents, Albert and Helga, have run the restaurant since 1998. The cooking rests on classic French technique, with international influences and a strong focus on produce from the region. Gault&Millau awarded it 14.5 in 2026, praising a refined blend of classic and modern in a compact menu.
Set menus run from three to six courses and are ordered per table. The printed menu has listed hamachi with tomato and basil, red mullet with artichoke and saffron, and lobster with cauliflower and truffle. Game comes from the family's own hunt and appears throughout the menu. A lunch menu of two or three courses is also available.
The dining room feels homely, with a touch of hotel chic. The restaurant was given a fresh look for its 25th anniversary in 2023. Wine is central here, with a well-stocked cellar and a list the family regards as one of the house's defining strengths. Guests can come for a simple lunch or settle in for a full tasting menu, and small welcome amuses arrive before the courses.
