The story
Cocina de Autor, at Carretera Transpeninsular Km. 17 Corredor Turístico in San José del Cabo, serves Mexican cuisine inside Grand Velas Los Cabos and holds one Michelin star (2026).
Francisco Sixtos, a native of Jalisco, leads the kitchen after years in Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe. Dutch chef Sidney Schutte, whose philosophy shapes the menu, visits several times a year to refine the dishes. The Mexican kitchen is described as creative, with fresh produce at its center.
Dinner starts with a cocktail from the bar, then moves to an 8 to 10 course tasting menu of local meats, seafood and fresh produce. Forbes Travel Guide awarded it Four-Star in 2026, noting its locally sourced, organic ingredients. The terrace, where the ocean is audible, is the favored seat, and a chef's table is available for a more intimate evening.
