The story
Sepia Cucina Italiana, at Sinaloa 170 in Mexico City's Roma Norte, is an Italian restaurant that has earned a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence (2020). Its kitchen applies Italian technique to fresh produce of Mexican origin.
Julián Martínez opened Sepia in August 2017 and cooks its menu himself. As a child he fished with his father off the Guerrero coast, and in 2012 he trained in Italy with Enrico Crippa and Bruno Cingolani. The restaurant serves sustainably caught fish and seafood.
The pasta is made in house. Garganelli arrive with duck ragù and rosemary crumble, and tortellini are filled with pheasant and finished with Piave cheese sauce and walnuts. The menu also lists risottos and a curated wine selection.
