The story
Comal is a contemporary Mexican restaurant at Playa Chileno Bay in Cabo San Lucas, on Carretera Transpeninsular San Jose-San Lucas Km. 15. The Michelin Guide listed it as Recommended in 2026.
The menu leans toward seafood. Ceviche and crudo are prepared at a live-action Raw Bar, and whole fish appears among the presentations. Braised short rib with mole sits on the same menu as vegetarian doraditas "a la talla," made with hibiscus flower. Plates carry razor-thin slices of raw produce and fish, with fresh herbs placed by hand.
Rough-hewn rock and dark woods help the building settle into the hillside, and the earthenware plates match. Desert greenery softens the minimalist lines. The indoor-outdoor space spreads across three levels facing the Sea of Cortez, a setting Forbes Travel Guide rated Recommended in 2026.
A wall lined with flickering candles gives dinner a romantic cast. For two, ask for a table closest to the water or at the patio edge near the fire pit, where the views run uninterrupted. Afterward, a nightcap around the large fire pit is easy to linger over, with a semi-circular sofa and the sound of waves.
