The story
Five Foot Road is a Sichuan restaurant in Taipa, Macau, at Avenida da Nave Desportiva, and it holds a Michelin One Star from 2026. The menu draws on the banquet tradition of 1940s Chengdu mansions, with fresh spices and seasonal produce sourced from Sichuan and Yunnan.
Executive Sous Chef Yang Dengquan has led the kitchen since the restaurant opened. He is a second-generation inheritor of traditional Chengdu Mansion Cuisine. Forbes Travel Guide awarded the restaurant Five-Star status in 2026 and praised his meticulous technique and knife skills. He has cooked for large government events and private gatherings across Asia.
The summer special menu builds around ginger, with dishes such as marinated sliced pig ear in chili sauce with pickled ginger and gong cai. Another features steamed spotted grouper under a sauce of ginger oil, pickled cowpeas and chili. The menu also includes century-old recipes from old Chengdu, including stewed duck with matsutake mushrooms.
The dining rooms are modeled on a classic Chengdu mansion. Floor-to-ceiling glass panels show Chinese ink paintings of Chengdu scenes that change with the seasons. Calligraphy and poetry by contemporary artist Li Lei hang throughout. A separate tea lounge and bar serves Chinese tea, Sichuan liquors and wines from China, and the house offers a tea-pairing menu built on its collection of Sichuan teas.
